About

About VietHoang.us

A small, independent site that runs head-to-head comparisons of consumer tech and developer tools, and tries very hard to tell you which one to buy without wasting your afternoon.

Who writes this

VietHoang.us is written and edited by Viet Hoang. One person: there is no newsroom, no rotating freelance bench and no anonymous "team" byline. If something here is wrong, there is exactly one person to take it up with, and you can reach him athi@viethoang.us.

That is deliberate about what it does not claim. There is no laboratory here, no accreditation, no bank of calibrated instruments and no engineering credential being waved around. What there is: a lot of time spent with the products, a stubborn preference for buying things at retail rather than being sent them, and a willingness to write "don't buy either of these" when that is the honest answer. Themethodology page is explicit about the limits of that, including what a single unit and a few weeks genuinely cannot tell you.

What the site covers

The through-line is comparison. Most articles here are showdowns: two or more products that look interchangeable from the outside, put next to each other until the difference becomes obvious. The categories it keeps returning to:

AI & Software SaaS

  • Fullstack Builders
  • Dev CLI Agents
  • LLM Benchmarks
  • Agent Automations

Hardware & Phone

  • Screen Protectors
  • GaN Fast Chargers
  • MagSafe Armor
  • ANC Earbuds

Gaming & Desk Setup

  • Esports Mice
  • Custom Keyboards
  • OLED Monitors
  • Ergonomic Chairs

Coverage follows what is confusing to buy rather than what is new. A two-year-old product that is still the right answer is more useful to write about than this week's launch.

How the reviews are made

  • Products are bought. The default is a retail purchase at the normal price, with the site's own budget. Where a unit was supplied instead, the article says so on the page.
  • Testing is hands-on. Things get used, carried, typed on and lived with. Where something is measured, the article says how; where a number came off a spec sheet, it is labelled a manufacturer claim.
  • The score is judgement. The 0–10 figure is a summary of the written verdict, not the output of a formula. The words are the review.
  • Articles get revisited. Prices move, firmware lands, successors arrive. Updates are dated on the page.

How it is funded

Affiliate commission, and nothing else. When you buy through a tagged link here, the retailer pays this site a share of the sale at no extra cost to you. There is no advertising sales operation, no sponsored-post inventory, and no arrangement under which a brand can buy coverage, a ranking position or a score.

That is a real commercial interest, so it is documented rather than downplayed: see theaffiliate disclosure for what is earned and the editorial standards for the rules that keep it away from the verdicts.

Getting in touch

Story tips, corrections and commercial enquiries all go through thecontact page, which sorts them into the right subject line. Corrections in particular are always welcome — they are made on the page, with a note saying what changed.
